The catholic church is a heresy. I’m not sure if you would call them a denomination, though. If you consider the catholic church a denomination. Then it technically started in the 100s when people got this idea that there could be one elder as head of the other elders in the church. Which is where the root of the problem started. If you consider the catholic church as a heresy (still not the Lord’s church) but not a denomination, then it would be in the 1500s.

You said denominations did not start till the 1500s and that is completely wrong. The Catholic Church was fully established by 606 AD and that was the first denomination.
